Here is a simple tricks of how to lock windows when your system is not in use in order to secure your data. This trick will come into use when you are working in your office or in some other place where you work together in a group and want to go out for a little while. You may think that shutting down or logging off can work but as it is a time taking process; this locking system will be helpful to you. And one thing to remember is even if you lock your system your account should be password protected then only locking your system will be useful otherwise locking of your Windows will come in no use. Here are four different ways to lock your Windows XP.

The first way is:
Press ‘windows key + L’ on your keyboard then you are done your Windows will be locked.

Second way is:
Right click on your desktop and then go to ‘new’ then select ‘shortcut’. A window appears asking for a location where you have to simply paste this code rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation and click on next. After clicking next it asks for a name, simply type ‘Lock’ and then click finish. A shortcut will be created with a name ‘lock’ on your desktop which on clicking will lock your computer. You can even change the icon of that shortcut to make it effective if you wish. To change the icon right click on the shortcut that is created and select properties, then select change icon where a window appears asking for a name. Type shell32.dll and click open select a suitable icon and click on Apply. The icon for the shortcut that you created will be changed.

Third way is:
Click on start menu and select Run where a window appears simply type cmd and click ok. A window opens where youhave to simply paste this code rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation there. Thus your computer will be locked.

The fourth way is:
Right click on your desktop and create a new text document, open it and type
@echo off
rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation
cls

Then save it with some name with .bat as extension (Ex: ‘lock.bat’). A BAT file will be created which on double clicking will lock your Windows.Hope these tips will let you know and help you to lock your system and secure your data.
