Claudius II was the Emperor of Rome at that time who wants to build a strong army for his Empire. He was in a thought of building his army with young and brave soldiers because he believed that young and unmarried soldiers would make a strong army and serve his Empire better because they will not have any wives and families so that there would be no worries in losing their lives and take part in wars. So he passed a law that unmarried men of Rome should not marry. But many young people hated this law and were against this. Even Saint Valentine was one among them and as a priest he used to perform marriages secretly without the knowledge of the Emperor. This continued for few days until one night where St. Valentine was got caught marrying a couple and luckily the couple escaped. He was put in jail after getting caught and was sentenced to death. During his stay in prison, he was visited by many young ones who believed in love and were against the Roman law. They expressed their thoughts about him in helping in secret marriages by throwing flowers and papers with some note on them. A girl who was the daughter of guard of the prison where Valentine was put also met him and it is said that they were close with each other and used to talk for a lot of time. February 14th is the day on which Saint Valentine was put to death. On the day of his death he sent a note with a message ‘Love from your Valentine’ to the prison guard’s daughter.
