26th January of every year is celebrated as Republic day in India. The Republic Day celebrations started on January 26th, 1950 after three years of India’s independence and are celebrated as a mark of establishing of India’s own constitution and freedom of spirit. The importance of Republic Day celebrations include the existence of India’s Constitution and as a tribute to all the freedom fighters who struggled a lot for making India an independent country.

The Republic Day celebrations at New Delhi, the capital of India are held with a grand parade at Rashtrapathi Bhavan, hoisting of national flag with national anthem played during the hoist, a salute with 21 guns is given as a token of respect to all the soldiers who fought for independence of the country and finally the President address the nation. Chief guests for these celebrations would include President or equivalent of other countries. The chief guest for 2012 India’s 63rd Republic Day celebrations is Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Thailand. State wise celebrations are also held with Governor of every state unfurling the flag. Republic Day in India is one among the three national holidays declared by Government of India along with Independence Day on August 15th and Gandhi Jayanti on October 2nd.
