Face.com is face recognition software that recognizes, detects faces and allows users to tag their faces in any photo that they want. Facebook, today’s most used Social Networking Site in the world with global traffic rank of #2 after Google bought face.com for enabling photo tagging feature and an aim to provide the optimum photo tagging and sharing experience for all the Facebook users. With this new technology embedded in the giant social networking site all its users can upload their photos and tag their friends faces at the cost of a single click. However, the amount that the social networking site has paid and acquired face.com is not yet revealed. Facebook seems to be targeting on improving photo sharing feature in its site which may be reason for all its recent buyings like ‘Instagram’, an application used for online photo sharing, ‘Glancee’, an app to search for people who are like minded and now face.com.
Face.com started in 2009 is an Israel based technology firm with nearly ten employees has worked on billions of photos till now and is said to be having the best technology in detecting and tagging faces. So, from now on face.com will be working for Facebook and will concentrate on providing better photo sharing and tag services especially on smartphone users who login to their accounts through their mobiles as there is a phenomenal growth in Facebook users through smartphone’s. So, have to wait for some time and see what standards this popular social networking site will set with these new embedded photo tagging and sharing technologies.
