  1. Avoid usage of desktop gadgets as they would increase memory usage. Apply simple themes rather than using animated themes with visual effects.
  2. On regular basis clean and defragment the drive in which OS is installed. Don’t fill this drive by installing most of the programs in it. Always try to install the programs in other drives as the space left in the OS installed drive will be utilized as virtual memory, which help your computer to run faster.
  3. Keep your desktop as clean as possible don’t fill it with shortcut icons or files.
  4. If you are an internet user then you must not forget to clear up your browsers cache, cookies and history. This will help in clearing all the temporary files created in browsing session.
  5. Use an updated version of antivirus because with the effect of trojans, worms and malwares the performance of your computer might reduce.
  6. Increase the booting speed by disabling the startup programs which are useless.
  7. Regularly try to clear %tmp% and %temp% folders in your computer as they contain temporary files which are not necessary.
  8. Don’t keep several windows active on your desktop as this will increase RAM usage. So always minimize the windows which you are not working currently.
  9. Delete all the shortcuts in your ‘Recent’ folder as it contains only shortcut of recently programs.
  10. In performance and maintenance menu select ‘Adjust for best performance’ option.
  11. Always empty your recycle bin.
  12. Update the hardware drivers as new drivers will increase your systems performance.
